New Vehicle "Break-In" Ignition Positions Use the key to turn the ignition switch to five different positions. NOTICE: Your modern vehicle doesn't need an elaborate "break-in." But itwill perform betterin the long run if you follow these guidelines: 0 Keep your speed 55 mph (88 km/h) or at less for the first miles (804 km). 500 0 Don't drive at any one speed fast or 500 slow for the first miles (804 km). Don't make full-throttle starts. 0 Avoid making hard stops for the first 200 miles (322 km)or so. During thistime your new brake linings aren't yet broken in. Hard stops with new linings can mean premature wear and earlier replacement. Follow this breaking-inguideline every time you get new brake linings. 0 Don't tow a trailer during break-in.
