Changing a Flat Tire If a tiregoes flat, avoid further tire and wheel damage by driving slowlyto a level place.Turn on your hazard warning flashers. That would be the tireon the other side the of vehicle, at the oppositeend. A CAUTION: Changing a tire can cause injury. The vehicle an can slipoff the jack and overyou or other roll people. You and they could be badly injured. Find a level place to change yourtire. To help prevent thevehicle from moving: 1. Set the parking brake firmly. 2. Put an automatic transmission shift lever in PARK (P) or shift a manual transmission to FIRST (1) or REVERSE (R). 3. If you have a four-wheel-drivevehicle, be sure the transfer is in a drive case gear not inNEUTRAL (N). 4. ' h r n off the engine.
