Parking To park your vehicle, shift into 1 (First), set the parking brake fully, and turn off the ignition. RWARNING Do not park your vehicle in Neutral, it may move unexpectedly and injure someone. Use 1 (First) gear and set the parking brake fully. Steering Your Vehicle (Power steering if equipped) Your car may be equipped with power steering. Power steering uses energy from the engine to help steer your car. If the amount of effort needed to steer your vehicle changes at a constant vehicle speed, have the power steering system checked. If the power steering system breaks down (or if the engine is turned off), you can steer the vehicle manually but it takes more effort. Never hold the steering wheel to the extreme right or left for more than five seconds if the engine is running. This can damage the power steering pump. Brakes Applying the Brakes Your vehicle is equipped with a power front disc/rear drum brake system that adjusts automatically as the brake pads and linings wear. If power assist is lost you can still stop your vehicle by applying greater force to the brake pedal than you normally would. The stopping distance, however, is longer. 126
