9. Remove any rust or dirt from the wheel bolts, mounting surfaces and spare wheel. IA CAUTION: - Never useoil or grease on studs ornuts. If you do, the nuts might come loose. Your wheel could fall off, causing a serious accident. I 10. Put on the spare tire. Put the nuts on by hand. Make sure the cone-shaped end is toward the wheel. Tighten each nut by hand until the wheel is held against the hub. If a nut can't be turned by hand, use the extension and see your dealer as soon as possible. Rust or dirt on the wheel, or on the parts to which it is fastened, can make the wheel nuts become loose after a time. The wheel could come off and cause an accident. When change a you wheel, remove any rust or dirt from the places where the wheel attaches to thevehicle. In an or emergency, you can use a cloth a paper towel to do this; but be sure to use a scraper or wire brush later, if you need to, to get all the rust or dirt off. 5-32
