J39L_EA.book Page 9 Saturday, June 8, 2002 5:35 PM Knowing Your Mazda Doors and Locks Liftgate (Hatchback) M Locking, Unlocking with Transmitter The liftgate can be locked/unlocked by operating the keyless entry system transmitter, refer to Keyless Entry System (page 3-2). WARNING Open Liftgate: An open liftgate in a moving vehicle will cause exhaust gas to be drawn into the cabin. This gas contains CO (carbon monoxide), which is colorless, odorless, and highly poisonous, and it can cause loss of consciousness and death. Moreover, an open liftgate could cause occupants to fall out in accident. Do not drive with the liftgate open. M Locking, Unlocking with DoorLock Switch The liftgate can be locked/unlocked by operating the door-lock switch, refer to Power Door Locks (page 3-8). M Opening and Closing the Liftgate To open the liftgate, pull up on the handle. M Locking, Unlocking with Key To lock the liftgate with the key, insert the key and turn it counterclockwise. Lock Unlock To close, use both hands to push the liftgate down until the lock snaps shut. Do not slam it. Pull up on the liftgate to make sure it is secure. To unlock the liftgate with the key, insert the key and turn it clockwise. The liftgate can be locked/unlocked by inserting the key into the key slot of any door, refer to Power Door Locks (page 38). 3-9 Form No. 8Q94-EA-02G
