Starting and operating New vehicle break-in driving J The first 1,000 miles (1,600 km) The performance and long life of your vehicle are dependent on how you handle and care for your vehicle while it is new. Follow these instructions during the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km): D Do not race the engine. B Break-in engine speed limit D Vehicle with tachometer Never exceed 4,000 rpm engine speed except for brief acceleration in an emergency. D Vehicle without tachometer (for manual transmission) Do not exceed the speed limits below for each gear position except for brief acceleration in an emergency. mph (km/h) 1st AWD 20 (35) 2nd 35 (60) 3rd 50 (80) 4th 65 (105) D Vehicles without tachometer (for automatic transmission) Try to drive at moderate speeds while accelerating and braking smoothly. Proper gears are selected automatically according to the driving conditions. D Do not drive at one constant engine or vehicle speed for a long time, either fast or slow. D Avoid starting suddenly and rapid acceleration, except in an emergency. D Avoid hard braking, except in an emergency.
