Maintenance and service D When power steering fluid is being added, use only clean fluid, and be careful not to allow any dirt into the tank. And never use different brands together. D Avoid spilling fluid when adding it in the tank. Check the power steering fluid level monthly. 1. Drive the vehicle several miles to raise the temperature of the power steering fluid up to normal operating temperature, about 140°F (60°C). 2. Park the vehicle on a level surface, and stop the engine. 3. Turn the reservoir cap counterclockwise to remove the fluid level dipstick, wipe the dipstick clean, and reinsert it. CAUTION Specified range Specified range OM-H2461 HB0280 4. Remove the dipstick again and check the fluid level on it. If it is below the lower level of the "HOT" range, add the recommended steering fluid up to the specified range of the dipstick. If the fluid level is extreme low, it may indicate possible leakage. Consult your SUBARU dealer for inspection. J Checking the fluid level when the fluid is cold When the fluid level has to be checked without warming up the power steering system (approximately 70°F [21°C]), read the fluid level on the "COLD" range. - CONTINUED - 10-31
