4. Remove the dipstick again and check the fluid level on it. If it is below the lower level of the "HOT" range, add the recommended steering fluid up to the specified range of the dipstick. If the fluid level is extreme low, it may indicate possible leakage. Consult your SUBARU dealer for inspection. B Checking the fluid level when the fluid is cold When the fluid level has to be checked without warming up the power steering system (approximately 70°F [21°C]), read the fluid level on the "COLD" range. B Recommended fluid "Dexron III" Type Automatic Transmission Fluid Brake fluid B Checking the fluid level D Never let brake fluid contact your eyes because brake fluid can be harmful to your eyes. If brake fluid gets in your eyes, immediately flush them thoroughly with clean water. For safety, when performing this work, wearing eye protection is advisable. D Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. Any absorbed moisture can cause a dangerous loss of braking performance. D If the vehicle requires frequent refilling, there may be a leak. If you suspect a problem, have the vehicle checked at your SUBARU dealer. WARNING 11-28
