Downshifting increases power going uphill, or provides engine braking downhill. For best fuel economy during normal driving conditions, always drive with the shift lever in the "D" position. Manual Transmission Tacoma is available with optional 5-speed or 6-speed Manual Transmission. For safety, the engine will not start unless the clutch pedal is FULLY depressed. Refer to the Owner's Manual for more details. 8
