Troubleshooting Error message Cause Action Cover is Open The top cover is not closed completely. Close the top cover of the machine. The fuser cover is not closed completely or paper was jammed in the back of the machine when you turned on the power.  Close the fuser cover located inside the back cover of the machine.  Make sure paper is not jammed inside the back of the machine, and then close the fuser cover and press Go (see Paper is jammed at the back of the machine on page 167). Drums End Soon The 4 drum units are near the end of Order a new drum unit set now so a replacement their life. drum unit will be available when the LCD shows Replace Drums (see Drums End Soon on page 119). 5 Drum End Soon: X (X shows the toner cartridge or drum unit color that must be replaced. BK=Black, C=Cyan, M=Magenta, Y=Yellow.) The drum unit for the color indicated Order a new drum unit for the color indicated on the on the LCD is near the end of its life. LCD before you get a Replace Drum: X message. Drum! The corona wire on the drum unit needs to be cleaned. Clean all four corona wires (one for each color) inside the drum unit by sliding the green tab (see Cleaning the corona wires on page 143). The drum unit or the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly is not installed correctly. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly, remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit, and reinstall the toner cartridge back into the drum unit. Reinstall the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back in the machine. If the problem continues, replace the toner cartridge (see Replacing the toner cartridges on page 111). Drum Stop It is time to replace the drum unit. Replace the drum unit for the color indicated on the LCD (see Replacing the drum units on page 121). Fuser Error The temperature of the fuser unit does not rise to a specified temperature within the specified time. Turn the machine off, wait a few seconds, and then turn it on again. Leave the machine for 15 minutes with the power on. The fuser unit is too hot. Jam 2-sided The paper is jammed underneath the paper tray or the fuser unit. See Paper is jammed underneath the Paper Tray on page 165. Jam Inside The paper is jammed inside the machine. See Paper is jammed inside the machine on page 169. The toner cartridge was placed in the machine without the drum unit. Put the toner cartridge into the drum unit, and then reinstall the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly in the machine. Cover is Open
The top cover is not closed

Close the top cover of the machine.
