Scanning (For USB cable users) Understanding the Error Messages 11 Once you are familiar with the types of errors that can occur while you are using the Scan to USB, you can easily identify and troubleshoot any problems. „ Protected Device This message will appear if the protect switch of the USB Flash memory drive is on. „ Rename the File This message will appear if there is already a file on the USB Flash memory drive with the same name as the file you are trying to save. „ Too Many Files This message will appear if there are too many files stored on the USB Flash memory drive. „ Unusable Device This message will appear if your USB Flash memory drive is not supported by your Brother machine. Scan to E-mail 11 You can scan either a black and white or color document into your E-mail application as a file attachment. You can change the scan configuration. (For Windows®, see E-mail on page 64. For Macintosh, see SCAN on page 158.) a Load your document. b Press (Scan). c Press a or b to choose Scan to PC. 11 Press OK. d Press a or b to choose E-mail. Press OK. e Press Black Start or Color Start. The machine starts scanning the document, creates a file attachment, and launches your E-mail application, displaying the new message waiting to be addressed. Note • Scan type depends on the settings of the DeviceButton tab, Black Start or Color Start do not change the settings. • If you want the scanned data in color, choose color in scan type on the Device Button tab of the ControlCenter3 or ControlCenter2 configuration. If you want the scanned data in black and white, choose black and white in scan type on the Device Button tab of the ControlCenter3 or ControlCenter2 configuration. • If you want to change the default file size for JPEG, PDF or Secure PDF, choose your preferred rate by moving the scroll bar on the Device Button tab of the ControlCenter3 or ControlCenter2 configuration. 180

Understanding the Error Messages

Once you are familiar with the types of errors that can occur while you are using the Scan to USB, you can
easily identify and troubleshoot any problems.
Protected Device
This message will appear if the protect switch of the USB Flash memory drive is on.
Rename the File
This message will appear if there is already a file on the USB Flash memory drive with the same name as
the file you are trying to save.
Too Many Files
This message will appear if there are too many files stored on the USB Flash memory drive.
Unusable Device
This message will appear if your USB Flash memory drive is not supported by your Brother machine.
