Appendix Battery Handling Battery Charge The following icon and message will display. Recharge it as soon as possible if it will be used for an extended period, or use an unused battery. Change the battery pack Battery charge is insufficient to operate the camera. Replace the battery immediately. While it is possible to use AA-size nickel-cadmium batteries, performance is unreliable and their use is not recommended. z The operating time of the batteries you purchase may not be as long as the batteries that came with the camera. The performance of alkaline batteries may differ according to brand. z If you are using the camera in cold areas or for a long time, we recommend using Canon's AA-size NiMH Battery Kit (sold separately). Camera operating time may shorten at low temperatures when alkaline batteries are used. Also due to their specifications, alkaline batteries may expire faster than NiMH batteries. z Never mix new batteries together with batteries that have been used in other devices.
