CH A P T E R 3 Configuring the Access Point for the First Time This chapter describes how to configure basic settings on your access point for the first time. The contents of this chapter are similar to the instructions in the quick start guide that shipped with your access point. You can configure all the settings described in this chapter using the CLI, but it might be simplest to browse to the access point's web-browser interface to complete the initial configuration and then use the CLI to enter additional settings for a more detailed configuration. This chapter contains these sections: • Before You Start, page 3-2 • Obtaining and Assigning an IP Address, page 3-3 • Connecting to the Access Point Locally, page 3-4 • Assigning Basic Settings, page 3-4 • Configuring Basic Security Settings, page 3-9 • Assigning an IP Address Using the CLI, page 3-14 • Using a Telnet Session to Access the CLI, page 3-14 OL-4310-05 Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point Hardware Installation Guide 3-1
