Creating zones increases network security and prevents data loss or corruption. Zone sets consist of one or more zones in a VSAN. A zone set can be activated or deactivated as a single entity across all switches in the fabric, but only one zone set can be activated at any time in a VSAN. Zones can be members of more than one zone set. A zone consists of multiple zone members. Members in a zone can access each other; members in different zones cannot access each other. Troubleshooting Checklist The following criteria must be met for zoning to function properly: Checklist Verify that you have an active zone set. Verify that you have the correct hosts and storage devices in the same zone. Verify that the zone is part of the active zone set. Verify that the default zone policy is permit if you are not using zoning. Verify that you have only pWWN-based zoning if you have a Cisco MDS 9020 fabric switch in your fabric.
