Chapter 2 Installing and Starting Up the Switch Connecting to the GBIC Module Ports Connecting to a 1000BaseX GBIC Module Port Caution Do not remove the rubber plugs from the fiber-optic port or the rubber caps from the fiber-optic cable until you are ready to connect the cable. The plugs and caps protect the fiber-optic port and cable from contamination and ambient light. Follow these steps to connect to the 1000BaseX port: Step 1 Step 2 Remove the rubber plugs from the fiber-optic port on the module, and store them for future use. Insert the SC connector in the fiber-optic receptacle, as shown in Figure 2-11.
