Heat sink WARNING! To reduce risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the internal system components to cool before touching. 1. Prepare the computer for disassembly (Preparation for Disassembly on page 76). 2. Remove the computer access panel (Access Panel on page 77). 3. Loosen the four silver T15 captive screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. CAUTION: Heat sink retaining screws should be removed in diagonally opposite pairs (as in an X) to even the downward forces on the processor. This is especially important as the pins on the socket are very fragile and any damage to them may require replacing the system board. 4. Remove the heat sink from the processor. When reinstalling the heat sink, make sure that its bottom has been cleaned with an alcohol wipe and fresh thermal grease has been applied to the top of the processor. CAUTION: Heat sink retaining screws should be tightened in diagonally opposite pairs (as in an X) to evenly seat the heat sink on the processor. This is especially important as the pins on the socket are very fragile and any damage to them may require replacing the system board. Heat sink 109
