4. To separate the SAS PCB from the carrier, move the two plastic tabs on each end of the PCB inward, and then pull the PCB free from the carrier. Figure 27. 12.4 Removing a Fan Module 1. Pinch the two orange tabs on the sides of the fan module together to release it from the chassis. 2. 12.4.1 Disassembling a Fan Module See 9.2 Locating Materials on a Fan Module on page 21 to identify the subcomponents within the fan module. 1. Disconnect the fan motors from the PCB. Figure 34. 12.5 Removing a Power Supply 1. While grasping the power supply's handle, push the supply's orange release tab to the right. 2. Pull the power supply from the enclosure and place it on a clean, static-free surface. Figure 39. b. Lift off the top of the power supply housing. Tip: The top cover is hinged; therefore lift and rotate on the hinge. Figure 41. Opening the power supply assembly housing c. 3. Remove the large capacitor (item 4.1b): a. Locate the large capacitor on the power supply PCB. b. Use wire cutters to trim the capacitor leads, and remove the large capacitor. Figure 43. assembly is released from the enclosure. 3. Use the latches to slide the SP assembly about half-way out of the enclosure. 4. Use both hands to support the SP assembly and pull it fully out of the enclosure. 5. Place the SP assembly on a clean, flat static-free work surface. Figure 44. 12.6.1 Disassembling a Storage Processor (SP) See 9.4 Locating Materials on a Storage Processor (SP) on page 23 to identify the subcomponents within the SP. 1. Remove the mSATA SSD: a. Turn the SP assembly over so that its bottom side faces up. b. Push the latch in on the plastic cover and rotate - Dell Unity XT 680 | WEEE Disassembly Instructions BPE12BPE25 - Page 50
2. Remove the top cover of the SP assembly: a. Press the blue button on the cover. b. Push the cover straight back 1/4 inch. c. Lift the cover up. Figure 47. Removing the SP top cover 3. 4. Remove the BBU from the SP assembly: a. Press the white tabs on each side of the cable connector while gently pulling upward to release it from the processor board. You may need to gently rock the connector to remove it. b. b. Slide the lid to the left until the lid tabs disengage from the metal chassis, and then pull the lid off the top of the BBU. Figure 51. Removing the battery casing from the BBU chassis Figure 52. 6. Remove the I/O module from the SP assembly: Note: This component is optional. If a blank module is present, remove it and proceed to step 8. a. Lift the blue latch carefully until it ejects the I/O module from the connector. b. Tip the SP so you have access to the bottom of the SP and using a Philips driver, remove the single screw that secures the SP PCB. Figure 60. 3. Remove the ten (10) screws that secure the midplane chassis assembly to the main chassis. (3 screws on each side, 4 screws on bottom) Figure 65. 12.7.2 BPE25 Disassembly Before starting this procedure, make sure all subcomponents have been removed from the chassis. See 9.5.2 BPE25 Chassis- material locations on page 26 to identify the subcomponents within the BPE25 chassis. 1. The chassis is disassembled with the exception of several plastic components. In some instances the components can merely be removed with force. Others are secured with rivots and may require destructive means to remove.
