TURNING THE DISPLAY IN THE INCORRECT DIRECTION COULD
DAMAGE THE HINGE.
IN THE FOLLOWING STEP, BE SURE TO POSITION THE DISPLAY
PERPENDICULAR TO THE KEYBOARD, OTHERWISE THE KEY-
BOARD OR DISPLAY COVER COULD GET SCRATCHED.
LifeBook Security/
Applications Panel
The six buttons are located on
the bottom left-hand side of the
display when it is configured
as a notebook.
Four of the buttons have secondary
functions. To activate secondary
functions, the Function (Fn) Button
should be pressed first and then
the application button. Be sure and
see your User’s Guide on how to
set up and use all the features of
the Security Panel.
Caution: Your system is
configured with Trusted
Platform Module (TPM)
Before you activate TPM, be sure
you fully understand how it works
by following the directions included
on the TPM applications CD. If you
choose to enable TPM, your TPM
password will be critical to the
operation of your computer and
MUST be remembered.
Drivers
Look for the latest drivers on the
Drivers and Applications Restore
CD. Right-click the FDU icon and
select “update”, or download
them at us.fujitsu.com/computers.
This convenient guide will lead you through the start-up
process and will also offer some valuable tips.
4. Booting the System
Press the Suspend/Resume/Power button (above the keyboard) to
turn on the notebook. When you do this for the first time, it will display
a Fujitsu logo on the screen. If you do nothing the system will load
the operating system, and then the Windows Welcome will begin.
5. Register

After the operating system has initialized, enter the information
as prompted to personalize your notebook and configure your
modem to dial.
For Genuine Windows Vista™:
Accept the Microsoft
®
Windows

Licensing Agreement and the
Fujitsu End User License Agreement to proceed.
Select your User ID and Password during the “Welcome Screen.”
Keep a record of your User ID and password stored in a secure place.
THE SCREEN WILL GO DARK FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO MINUTES.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN POWER ON OR OFF DURING THIS STAGE

6. Registering Your LifeBook notebook
Register your notebook with Fujitsu Service and Support via our
website at us.fujitsu.com/computers.
You will need to be set up with an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
to register online.
7. Installing Click Me!
Check to be sure the WLAN switch is on.
For Genuine Microsoft
®
Windows
®
XP:
The first time you boot up
your system, you will see an icon called Click Me! in the Start menu.
For Genuine Windows Vista™:
In addition to an icon on the
desktop, a dialog box will automatically open that prompts you
to run Click Me!. If you choose not run ClickMe! at this time,
the ClickMe! icon will appear on your desktop.
When you click the Click Me! icon, your system will automatically
build the icon tray in the bottom right of the screen. These icons
provide links to utilities that you will frequently access.
8. Convert to Tablet Configuration
Open notebook and lift display so it is perpendicular to keyboard
Rotate display 180 degrees (either direction)
Carefully fold display down onto keyboard
Push latch down towards display
Reverse this procedure to return to notebook configuration.
Be sure to rotate display in opposite direction.
1. Open the Display Panel
Ensure that your LifeBook is on a hard level surface and that
the air vents are not blocked.
Lift the display, being careful not to touch the screen.
Adjust the display until it is at a comfortable viewing angle.
2. Connect AC Power
Plug the AC adapter into your notebook.
Plug the power cord into the AC adapter.
Connect the power cord to an electrical outlet.
3. Connect to Internet or Network
Connect either a phone cord to the modem port or an Ethernet
cable to the LAN port on your notebook and to a wall jack or to
an Ethernet router. (See back panel drawing for port locations.)
Important:
During the setup procedure, do not disconnect the power supply,
press any buttons, or use any peripheral devices such as a mouse,
keyboard, or remote control.
You should not attach any external devices and do not put a DVD/
CD in your drive until you have gone through the initial power
on sequence.
Power Indicator
The Power indicator symbol located on
the power button shows whether your
system is operational. When it is lit blue,
it means that there is power to your
computer and that it is ready for use.
Battery Level Indicator
Indicates whether the Lithium ion battery
is installed and charging, and how much
charge is available within the batteries.
Green: The battery is installed
and fully charged.
Amber: The battery is installed and is
approximately half charged.
Red: The battery charge is low and it
should be charged with an adapter
or replaced with a charged battery.
BATTERIES SUBJECTED TO SHOCKS,
VIBRATION OR EXTREME TEMPERATURES
CAN BE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED.
IF THERE IS NO BATTERY ACTIVITY
AND THE POWER ADAPTERS ARE NOT
CONNECTED, THE BATTERY LEVEL
INDICATORS WILL ALSO BE OFF.
Hard Drive Access Indicator
Lights green when your internal hard drive
is being accessed.
NumLk Indicator
Shows that the integral keyboard is set
in ten-key numeric keypad mode.
CapLock Indicator
Shows that your keyboard is set to type
in all capital letters.
ScrLk Indicator
Shows that your scroll lock is active.

Initial Start Up
Status Indicator Panel
The Status Indicator Panel is located above the
keyboard. Following are some common indicators.
The Lithium ion battery is not charged upon purchase.
Initially you will need to connect either the AC adapter
or the Auto/Airline adapter to use your notebook.

9. Calibrate the Touch Screen
Note: Only use stylus tip for calibrating. Touching screen with
your fingers will require restarting calibration process.
Go to Start -> Control Panel. If you are not in Classic View,
select “Switch to Classic View” in the left panel.
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition: Double-click the Tablet and Pen
Settings icon and select the Settings tab .Windows XP Professional:
Double-click the Touch Panel icon and select the Calibration tab.
Windows Vista: Double-click the Tablet PC Settings icon and
select the General tab.
Click the [Calibrate] or [Calibrate Now] button.
Adjust the display of your notebook to a comfortable angle and
find the (+) symbol in the upper-left corner of the display.
Using the stylus, firmly touch the screen directly on the (+)
symbol. Lift the stylus from the screen and the target will
move to a different location on the screen.
Repeat step 4 until you have selected all of the (+) symbols.
Once you have selected all the symbols, press the [OK] button.
Touch the stylus to various points on the screen to verify that the
screen is correctly calibrated. If you are not satisfied with the
screen’s calibration, press the [Calibrate]) button to begin again.
10. Install Additional Software
Close any open programs, applications or utilities
Insert software application disc into media drive
Open the application folder, select the set-up icon,
and load desired software, as shown in the table.
Restart your computer.
11. Access your User’s Guide
To take advantage of all the features of your new Fujitsu LifeBook
notebook, it is highly recommended that you read your electronic
User’s Guide. It contains important detailed information about
your new computer. You can access your User’s Guide by
selecting its icon from the screen desktop.
