Step 8: Attach the Collar to Your Dog
Attach the DC 30 and the collar to your dog’s neck with the VHF
antenna pointing up.

Tracking Your Dog
The Dog Tracker page shows the direction and distance of the dog
from the Astro 220 and the status of the dog.
To view the Dog Tracker page press
DOG
.
The dog you are tracking is identified, and the dog pointer
indicates the dog’s direction from you. The dog pointer is most
accurate when you are holding the Astro 220 level and the dog is
farther than 30 feet (9.1 meters) away. At less than that distance, a
NEAR message appears, and the dog pointer is shortened. When
you are close to the dog, the dog pointer may be inaccurate.

Unknown
The Unknown status symbol [?], indicates that the DC 30 has not
acquired a satellite signal and that the Astro 220 cannot determine
the location of the dog.
To track a dog on the Map page, press
MAP
. The Map page
indicates the following:
the location of the dog, its name, and a track showing its
movements
your location and track
Your position is
indicated by the
direction pointer
Accuracy circle
Dog’s track
Dog status icon
Marked

map
Navigating to your Dog
To navigate to your dog:
1. Press
MENU

Advanced
>
Find
>
Dogs
.
2. Select the dog.
3. Use the compass page to navigate to the dog.
Navigating to a Point
To navigate to a point, find the location on the Astro and then use
the compass to navigate to that location.
To find a location by name:
1. Press
MENU
>
MENU
>
Advanced
>
Find
.
2. Select the type of item to which you want to navigate >
ENTER
.
3. Select the item in the Find list >
ENTER
.
4. Use the compass page to navigate to the point.
Marking your Location
To mark your current location:
1. Press
MARK
>
New
to view the Mark Location page.
2. Select
OK
to mark the location.
Using the Compass page to Navigate
To open the Compass page:
Press
MENU

Advanced

GPS Applications
>
Compass

Hold the compass level when navigating to ensure maximum
accuracy.
Bearing pointer -
(bearing to destination)

Direction you
are currently
traveling
Using the Bearing Pointer
The bearing pointer points to your destination, regardless of the
direction you are moving. If the bearing pointer is pointing in
your direction of travel, you are traveling directly toward your
destination. If the bearing pointer points any other direction, turn
toward that direction until the pointer is pointing ahead.
