Please inform your respective phone, web-support and e-commerce support teams that we will release a new
software update for the AVR 745 on Monday morning, March 16
th
. As you may know, we try not to release
software on Fridays as there is no way to pull it down quickly if an unforeseen problem occurs. The instructions
should be self-explanatory, but anticipating the inevitable questions from consumers, I have the following for you:
°
This update will show on the web site as “10-March-08” and is the “Version 4.20” software for the AVR
745.
°
As is the case with virtually all of our updates, it is a “cumulative roll-up”, and which means that it includes
some new items as well as all the fixes and feature adds that were in the earlier upgrades. Unlike what
some consumers may be used to for computer software, it is not necessary to do the upgrades
sequentially. In other words, this upgrade may be applied to an AVR regardless of the current software,
whether an intermediary update had been applied or not.
°
As this update contains fixes that have not been present in earlier software revisions, it is recommended
that it be applied, regardless of the report from a consumer. However, in keeping with what is now
standard practice, we have listed the release date of the update and the means for a consumer to check
the version in their unit on the web site. This helps to let them know if they do have the current software
or not. (Again, in this case, they won’t.)
°
This update addresses the following issues:
o
When using an analog component connection between the AVR 745 and your video display, the
AVR will retain the video output resolution setting in all cases.
o
The LFE channel level from multichannel PCM signals is now set at the same level established
for Dolby
®
Digital and DTS
®
bitstreams.
o
More seamless integration of iPod
®
playback using The Bridge docking station in multiroom
installations.
o
Additional stability for HDMI
video signals, eliminating minor artifacts that appeared with some
DVD titles.
°
Due to the nature of the AVR 745’s system architecture it is required that both the “cpu” and “dsp” files be
loaded anytime there is an upgrade. Some of our more observant consumers may note that only the “cpu”
file is changed in this software package. That is correct, as only the cpu is being addressed in this
upgrade, but as noted above, both files must be re-loaded even when only one or the other is new.
Please let me know if you encounter any issues note addressed here.
