Above-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaners Installation Instructions Step 1 Clean or backwash the filter, and clean the pump strainer basket prior to installing your Hayward automatic pool cleaner. Step 5 - Measure Hose Lengths A simple rule of thumb to measure hose requirements is to measure the distance from the skimmer (or dedicated suction line) to the farthest point in the pool then add three (3) extra hose sections.
