About this document
This document details procedures for replacing a failed I/O module
in an HP StorageWorks 2000 Family Modular Smart Array.
NOTE:
Make sure you obtain the latest version of these
instructions from
. Select MSA SAN
Arrays, select your product, and go to Support.
Before you begin
CAUTION:
Removing the I/O module impacts the airflow and
cooling ability of the device. To avoid possible overheating, insert
the replacement I/O module as quickly as possible. If the internal
temperature exceeds acceptable limits, the enclosure may overheat
and automatically shut down or restart.
Parts can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Use proper
anti-static protection:
Keep the replacement component in the ESD bag until needed.
Wear an ESD wrist strap grounded to an unpainted surface of
the chassis.
If an ESD wrist strap is unavailable, touch an unpainted surface
of the chassis before handling the component.
Never touch connector pins.
Verifying component failure
Use either of the following methods to verify component failure:
Check Fault/Service Required LED (back):
Amber = Fault condition
Check that the OK LED (back) is off.
Check the event log for errors
.
Removing the I/O module
1.
Using Storage Management Utility (SMU), illuminate the UID
(Unit Identification) LED of the enclosure that contains the I/O
module to remove.
a.
Select Manage > General Config > Enclosure Management.
b.
Click Illuminate Locator LED.
2.
Locate the enclosure whose UID LED is blue (front right ear), and
within it, the I/O module whose Fault/Service Required LED
(back) is amber and Unit Locator LED (back) is white.
3.
Disconnect any SAS cables that might interfere with the removal
of the I/O module. If both SAS cables to an I/O module have to
be disconnected, shut down both controllers.
IMPORTANT:
In a single-controller configuration, you must shut
down the controller to prevent the virtual disks from going offline.
a.
Select Manage > Restart System > Shut Down/Restart, and
select a controller option.
b.
Click Shut Down and click OK.
