Image Quality - Edge Defect
What is it?
The edge of the copy will have light and dark areas along the vertical edges of the image.
Issue Description:
This image quality issue is caused by media that has a wavy edge and does not sit flat against the
scanner glass.
Both A4 and letter 20# media were printed and then placed directly onto the scanner
glass for copying.
A combination of high humidity, high temperatures, and curl induced from printing,
created this light and dark edge condition.
The weight of the scanner lid is not sufficient to push the
paper flat.
The CM1015/1017MFP utilizes a CIS (contact image sensor) scan module that has a shallow
depth of field which can not focus on the paper away from the glass, resulting in this defect.
This issue is
not usually visible in text and mixed copy modes.
It is more visible in the photo and picture modes. See
the sample on page 2. Notice the light and dark edges of the image.
Issue Resolution:
1) Use the text or mixed mode to reduce the defect
2) Stack additional sheets of paper on the copied page to help flatten the paper edges
3) Do not copy the paper directly after printing - print more originals and eliminate the copy mode
4) Reduce the humidity in the area
5) Flatten the edges of the media to be copied
