SAS expander cabling instructions
for HP ProLiant DL785 Servers
Overview
This document provides the procedure for cabling a SAS expander.
SAS expander cabling
To install a SAS expander:
1.
Power down the server.
2.
Remove the server from the rack.
3.
Remove the access panel.
4.
Disconnect the cable connecting the SAS backplane and SPI board. Retain the cable for
future use.
5.
Connect the SAS expander to the Smart Array Controller.
6.
Install together the Smart Array Controller into slot 1 and the SAS expander into slot 2.
7.
Route and connect the cables from the SAS expander to the SAS backplanes.
