Before installing this kit,
verify that you have the most recent version
of the P2000 G3 MSA Software Support / Documentation CD. This
CD is required during the installation process, but the version shipped
with the P2000 G3 may not contain the HBA drivers and other com-
ponents required to install this kit. The latest version of the CD can be
downloaded from the P2000 G3 website.
•
Before installing this kit,
determine which servers will be included in
this SAN. Confirm server support with the P2000 G3 QuickSpecs.
•
Before installing this kit,
obtain drives that will be installed in the
P2000 G3 array. Confirm drive support with the P2000 G3 Quick-
Specs.
•
During these installation procedures,
be sure to record important in-
formation about your SAN in the
Key System information
, section of
this document. Some information, such as the kit part number and kit
serial number, are required for warranty and service support. Inform-
ation can be obtained from device labels and from software tool
displays.

IMPORTANT:
Before racking devices,
record the SAN kit part number and
serial number in
Key System information
. This information is
located on the SAN kit device warranty label and is required
when requesting support for any of the items in the kit.
>> For information about mounting devices in the rack, see the racking
instructions shipped with the array enclosure, switch, and other hardware
(including servers and additional drive enclosures).
Installing HBAs
IMPORTANT:
Before proceeding with the installation,
verify that the server is
operating properly. Prepare servers for inclusion in the SAN by
installing operating system updates, patches, and hot-fixes.
HBAs are installed in server PCIe slots to provide the cable connection
between the server and the switch. Install two HBAs in each server.
Installation procedures vary by server.
>> For information about installing HBAs, see the user documentation
for the server.
Installing SFPs
HBAs and switches ship with Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) fiber optic
transceivers uninstalled. Install provided SFPs in SAN Kit devices as
follows:
•
HBAs: Use 4 SFPs (1 per HBA)
•
Switches: Use 8 SFPs (4 per switch)
By default, switch ports 0
–
7 are active and licensed for immediate use.
HP recommends installing the provided SFPs in port-number order,
beginning with switch port 0 (port 0, 1, 2, and 3 on each switch.)
>> To install an SFP transceiver, remove the dust caps from the port and
SFP and then, insert the transceiver into the port, pressing gently until it
snaps in place. The transceiver will fit only one way. If the transceiver
does not install under gentle pressure, invert it and try again.
