The SCSI bus is electrically implemented in two ways: single-ended - HP Surestore 5200ex | HP SureStore Optical Disk Drive User's Guide - C1114-90015 - Page 61
NOTE Operating This Drive on a SCSI Bus A Brief Overview of SCSI The differential bus uses two lines for each signal and measures the voltage difference between the two signals. Differential retains more signal quality than single-ended and is not as sensitive to noise, allowing for a longer cable - HP Surestore 5200ex | HP SureStore Optical Disk Drive User's Guide - C1114-90015 - Page 62
Mixing Wide and Narrow Devices An a preliminary note to this discussion, HP highly recommends that you do NOT mix wide and narrow buses. Connecting devices of the bus. Operating This Drive on a SCSI Bus The SCSI Bus and This Drive Because a narrow device only has a 50-pin connector, it will not transmit the eight extra bits of data needed for the wide device on the end of the bus.
