1 What's in This Version HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0 is a distributed file system functionally equivalent to Version 1.2.2 of The Open Group's (formerly Open Software Foundation) DCE Distributed File Service (DFS). Enhanced DFS is one component of the HP Enterprise File System product - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 10
DFS filespace. Within this filespace, users can share files stored on any of the computers that are part of this global view. Enhanced DFS requires the HP-UX 11.0 operating system and the HP DCE/9000 Version 1.7 product. Enhanced DFS supports all HP DCE/9000 DFS 1.7 functionality and protocols - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 11
server machines in the network • Backs up and restores system and user data as needed Enhanced DFS 3.0 operates on top of and interacts with the following HP DCE 1.7 components: • DCE Security Service • DCE Directory Service • DCE Distributed Time Service • DCE Remote Procedure Call facility 11 - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 12
offers complete HP DCE/9000 1.7 DFS server functionality for distributed computing environments, See the HP DCE 1.5 planning and configuration guide for a description of this environment variable. The runtime looks for a RPC_SUPPORTED_NETADDRS environment variable, which allows a user - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 13
What's in This Version Features export RPC_SUPPORTED_NETADDRS=ip:myhost or export RPC_SUPPORTED_NETADDRS=ip:10.3.2.1 forces any servers started in the current shell to support only the addresses associated with the name myhost and the network address 10.3.2.1 Since both DCE and DFS respond to - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 14

What's in This Version Features 7 Configure security replica: tcl_dce_config_secreplica (hostname celladmin \ > celladmin_pw) This function allows an existing dce client machine to become a security replica. The hostname will be the used as the name of the replica. The node you run this function on - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 18
host. Global variables Global variables include directory variables, execution variables, and security server variables. Global variables may be defined by the user if the default setting is not correct for whatever reason. If none are defined, the configuration scripts will still work correctly. 18 - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 19
Directory variables should only have to be changed by the user if they somehow customize their dce installation and required files dce" • DCE_OPT - Default is "/opt/dce" Execution variables can be changed by the user to modify the behavior of the configuration scripts. • CLEAN_UP - y or n. 2 Information About This Version This chapter describes the known problems and limitations of HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0 and differences between this version and the previous version. 21 - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 22
the VxFS file system. DCM Tool Not Supported Enhanced DFS 3.0 does not support the SAM-based DCE Configuration Manager (DCM) tool. To configure Enhanced DFS 3.0, you must use the dce_config command explicitly, as instructed in Planning and Configuring HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0, or use - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 23
Care must be taken when choosing pathname arguments to the HP-UX mkdir -p command, which tries to create each directory in the path you specify. Thus: mkdir -p /.../xyz.abc.com/fs/users/kk/dir fails because nothing can be created in the CDS part of the name space ( /... and /.../xyz.abc.com). Problems and Workarounds shows mycell. These names are cached by EFS until the node is rebooted. Problems and Workarounds Maximum Episode Aggregate and Fileset Sizes The maximum size of an Episode aggregate is limited by the maximum HP-UX file system size of 128 GB. Note that you must use EXTREME CAUTION when using the network root identity because it has full access to all files on all DFS services in the cell, not just a single server, like the local UNIX root identity - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 28
a file. This differs from the behavior of other HP-UX file systems (HFS, VxFS, NFS) and from a DFS exported UFS file, all of which allow file owners to chown files they own. 1.5.2 and 3.0 CAUTION: Differences Between 1.5.2 and 3.0 This section describes differences between HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 1.5.2 and Version 3.0. HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0 on HP-UX 11 problem introduced by a previous defect fix. • Improved the output of the failage field in FTS commands to be more useful and readable. • Corrected a memory leak in DFS that eventually used up all user memory, causing the system to freeze. • Updated - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 31
3 Compatibility Information and Installation Requirements This chapter describes the hardware, software, operating system, memory, and swap space requirements for HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0 on HP-UX 11.0. 31 - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 32
As a result, the following are prerequisites for the installation of the HP Enhanced DFS product: • HP DCE/9000 Core Client Software product • B6733AA DCE/9000 Kernel Threads Support bundle The DCE core client package (DCE-Core) is bundled with HP-UX 11.00, and consequently should be present on all - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 33
the current Quality Pack patches associated with VxFS. disk space requirements. Chapter 8 of the OSF DFS Administrators Guide provides some guidance and information regarding this subject. and Installation Requirements Enhanced DFS 3.0 Interoperability Enhanced DFS 3.0 Interoperability HP DFS clients and servers are completely interoperable with HP DCE/9000 Version 1.4x and 1.7 DFS clients and servers.. This includes HP DFS 1.4.x, HP DFS 1.5.x, and versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 of the - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 37
NIS, Integrated Login, and DCE/DFS should interoperate without any problems because they do not have any knowledge of one another. Login falls back to using the /etc/passwd file; upon successful login, the user does not have DCE credentials, gains unauthenticated access to DFS, and thus can only - HP Visualize c3000 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 38
