1 What's in This Version HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0 is a distributed file system functionally equivalent to Version 1.2.2 of The Open Group's (formerly Open Software Foundation) DCE Distributed File Service (DFS). Enhanced DFS is one component of the HP Enterprise File System product - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 10
global view. Enhanced DFS requires the HP-UX 11.0 operating system and the HP DCE/9000 Version 1.7 product. Enhanced DFS supports all HP DCE/9000 DFS 1.7 functionality and protocols, and interoperates fully with other DFS servers. The client and server components of Enhanced DFS 3.0 are available - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 11
the location of every fileset • Extends the UNIX permissions to provide more precise definitions of access permissions server and client machines to an HP DCE/9000 DFS configuration with little impact on other servers or clients and with few additional administrative responsibilities • Supports - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 12
the environment variable, RPC_SUPPORTED_NETADDRS. See the HP DCE 1.5 planning and configuration guide for a description of this environment variable map. Addresses not found on the list are excluded from the server's list of available addresses. The format of the RPC_SUPPORTED_NETADDRS string is - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 13
What's in This Version Features export RPC_SUPPORTED_NETADDRS=ip:myhost or export RPC_SUPPORTED_NETADDRS=ip:10.3.2.1 forces any servers started in the current shell to support only the addresses associated with the name myhost and the network address 10.3.2.1 Since both DCE and DFS respond to - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 14

Specify the cellname to be a client in an existing cell, sec_server would be the name of the security server in that cell. passed as either the full domain name (for example, blech.ch.apollo.hp.com) or the short name (for example, blech). Specify the cellname usually 'cell_admin') and password. If you are configuring a single-node server, sec_server should be the same as hostname. -dce: dcecp> 10 Remove a machine from an existing cell: tcl_dce_remove (hostname) On a client, do this after an tcl_dce_unconfig. On a server, do this to completely remove the server and destroy the cell. It doesn't touch the registry or namespace, but does stop any running daemons and then removes - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 19

the VxFS file system. DCM Tool Not Supported Enhanced DFS 3.0 does not support the SAM-based DCE Configuration Manager (DCM) tool. To configure Enhanced DFS 3.0, you must use the dce_config command explicitly, as instructed in Planning and Configuring HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0, or use - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 23

Using the HP-UX mkdir -p Command Care must be taken when choosing pathname arguments to the HP-UX mkdir fs; the command: mkdir -p /:/users/kk/dir works (assuming the correct UNIX permissions) because the first directory mkdir -p tries to create is users. source control product. ClearCase implements its own client/server oriented file system. It does not lend itself to integration with the secure file service that Enhanced DFS 3.0 provides. Issues with DFS as a UNIX Filesystem DFS is a perfectly valid Unix file system, with the unique ability to - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 27

Note that you must use EXTREME CAUTION when using the network root identity because it has full access to all files on all DFS services in the cell, not just a single server, like the local UNIX root identity would. 27 - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 28

This Version This section describes the required patches for HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0 on HP-UX 11.0. The following fixes are included in Corrected a problem with the FTS addsite command, which would try to create a second read/write replica. • Improved the selection of DFS servers, when - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 31
3 Compatibility Information and Installation Requirements This chapter describes the hardware, software, operating system, memory, and swap space requirements for HP DCE/9000 Enhanced DFS Version 3.0 on HP-UX 11.0. 31 - HP Visualize c3600 | hp enterprise file system: release note for hp DCE/9000 enh - Page 32
