Special keys and buttons Your computer has several special keys and buttons to help you more easily and effectively. For the Windows 7 operating system, the On Screen Display program is preinstalled on your computer to enable you to toggle between the default and standard settings of the ThinkPad F1-F12 key functionality. To toggle the F1-F12 key functionality on the Windows 7 operating system, do either of the following: • From Control Panel: 1. Click Start ➙ Control Panel. 2. In the icons view, click Keyboard and the Keyboard Properties window is displayed. 3. Configure the key functionality as desired. • Pressing Fn for four seconds and the ThinkPad Keyboard Properties window is displayed. Then configure the key functionality as desired. Function keys Your computer has several functions keys F1 - F12. By default setting, press the desired function key directly to use the special function printed on the key. To use F1-F12 as standard function keys, do either of the following: • In the keyboard properties window, click the ThinkPad F1-F12 keys tab, select Legacy, and then click OK. • On the ThinkPad Setup program main menu, select Config ➙ Keyboard/Mouse ➙ Change to F1-F12 keys ➙ Legacy. Volume and mute keys To quickly adjust the volume of the sound from your computer, mute the sound entirely, set the microphone to mute, or control the video output from the integrated camera, press one of the following keys. • F1: Speaker mute (F1) • F2: Speaker volume down (F2) • F3: Speaker volume up (F3) If you mute the sound and then turn off your computer, the sound will remain muted when you turn on your computer again. To turn on the sound, press the Speaker volume up or Speaker volume down keys. • F4: Microphone mute (F4) When you press the microphone mute key, all of the recording devices are set on mute or unmute; this is the default setting. • F5: Camera mute (F5) During a video conference you can control the video streaming from the integrated camera by pressing this key. The video output will be grayed out, and the audio streaming will continue. Display management keys • F6 Switching a display output location (F6) For Windows 7: Switch between the computer display and an external monitor. Windows will show these display options: Chapter 2.
