Controlling How the Camera Sets Exposure S: Shutter-Priority Auto In shutter-priority auto, you choose the shutter speed while the camera auto- matically selects the aperture that will produce the optimal exposure. Shutter speed can be set to values between 30 s and /1 4,000 s. Use slow shutter speeds to suggest motion by blurring moving objects, high shutter speeds to "freeze" motion. Shutter-priority auto is only available with CPU lenses. Taking Photographs-Exposure Changing from Manual to Shutter-Priority Auto If you select a shutter speed of in manual exposure mode and then turn the function dial to S (shutter-priority auto) without changing the shutter speed, the indicator in the shutter-speed display will flash and the shutter can not be released. Rotate the main command dial to select a different shutter speed before shooting. 4-Long Exp. NR ( 149) To reduce noise at shutter speeds of about 1/2 s or slower, select ON for Custom Setting 4. Note that this will increase the time needed to process photographs before they are saved to the memory card. 79
