About this Manual • The instructions in this manual describe the controls on the remote. Playing Discs After following Step 6 Depending on the disc, a menu may appear on the TV screen. You can play the disc interactively by following the instructions on the menu. Playing Discs Resuming Playback from the Point Where You Stopped the Disc (Resume Play) When you stop the disc, the system remembers the point where you pressed x and "RESUME" appears in the front panel display. Playing Discs Selecting the Play Mode (All Discs, One Disc, or Album) You can select the play mode that plays all discs continuously, one disc, or album. Creating Your Own Program (Program Play) You can play the contents of a disc in the order you want by arranging the order of the tracks on the disc to create your own program. Setting the shuffle mode in the Control Menu You can select either normal shuffle or album shuffle (MP3 only). H Playing Repeatedly (Repeat Play) You can play all the titles/tracks/files or a single title/chapter/track on a disc. Playing Discs Checking the Playing Time and Remaining Time You can check the playing time and remaining time of the current title, chapter, or track, and the total playing time or remaining time of the disc. You can also check the DVD/CD/Super Audio CD text and MP3 folder name/file name/ID3 tag ( - Sony DAV-FC9 | Operating Instructions - Page 44
Checking the date information (JPEG only) You can check the date information during playback when the Exif* tag is recorded in the JPEG image data. DVD DISPLAY Press DVD DISPLAY during playback. Adjusting the subwoofer You can adjust the subwoofer according to the playback source. Using the Sound Effect This system provides you with 2 types of sound effect, simply by pressing a button. Sound Adjustments Notes • The NIGHT MODE function is activated only when the input stream is Dolby Digital format. • When you connect the headphones to the system, the BASS LEVEL function does not work. • When playing back a Super Audio CD, only the BASS LEVEL function works and the NIGHT MODE - Sony DAV-FC9 | Operating Instructions - Page 52
Using Various Additional Functions Changing the Angles If various angles (multi-angles) for a scene are recorded on a DVD, you can change the viewing angle. Displaying Subtitles If subtitles are recorded on a disc, you can turn the subtitles on or off while playing. If multilingual subtitles are recorded on the disc, you can change the subtitle language while playing, or turn the subtitles on or off whenever you want. Locking Discs (CUSTOM PARENTAL CONTROL, PARENTAL CONTROL) You can set two kinds of playback restrictions for a disc. • Custom Parental Control You can set the playback restrictions so that the system will not play inappropriate discs. • Parental Control Playback of some DVDs can be limited according - Sony DAV-FC9 | Operating Instructions - Page 55

Limiting playback for children (Parental Control) (DVD only) Playback of some DVDs can be limited according to a predetermined level, such as the age of the viewer. Other Operations Naming Preset Stations You can enter a name of up to 6 characters for preset stations. These names (for example, "XYZ") appear in the system's front panel display when a station is selected. Note that no more than one name can be entered for each preset station. Using the Sleep Timer You can set the system to turn off at a preset time, so you can fall asleep listening to music. You can preset the time up to 180 minutes. Returning to the default settings You can return the system parameters such as speaker settings and preset station to the default settings. INTERLACE x TV TYPE (DVD only) Selects the aspect ratio of the connected TV (4:3 standard or wide). The default settings vary, depending on the country model. 16:9 4:3 LETTER BOX 4:3 PAN SCAN Select this if you connect a widescreen TV or a TV with a wide mode function. x AUDIO DRC Narrows the DYNAMIC range of the sound track. Useful for watching movies at low volume late at night. OFF No compression of DYNAMIC range.
