Attach the interface connector of your CLIÉ
handheld straight onto the docking connector
of the keyboard.

Turn on your CLIÉ handheld.
If necessary, you can connect the AC power adapter to this
compact keyboard. Use the AC power adapter supplied with
your CLI
É
handheld.
For details on how to operate or type with this compact
keyboard, click [View Manual] on the menu screen of the
supplied CD-ROM, then refer to the
Keyboard Help List
and
the supplied
Key Layout Sheet.
Note
If you set
System Sound
on your CLI
É
handheld, it works for both your
CLI
É
handheld and the compact keyboard. For details on changing the
system sound, refer to the operating instructions of your CLI
É
handheld.
Cautions
Be sure to use the keyboard on a level surface. Using the keyboard on an
uneven surface, such as your lap, may cause the keyboard to bend slightly
at the center and cause a malfunction.
Do not pull your CLI
É
handheld toward you when your CLI
É
handheld
is attached to the keyboard, as it may break the docking connector and
cause a malfunction.
Before attaching your CLI
É
handheld to the keyboard, make sure that the
PDA foot is fully extended to facilitate proper connection. Otherwise, a
malfunction may occur.
While using the keyboard, do not pull or detach your CLI
É
handheld
from the docking connector of the keyboard, as it may cause a
malfunction.
Use your stylus to select an item from a list or menu, and for operations
that are not performed by the keyboard.
The Num Lk key set on the compact keyboard does not work for the
on-screen keyboard of your CLI
É
handheld. The Num Lk key must be set
individually on each keyboard.
Do not force the keyboard open beyond 180 degrees (fully open), as it
may cause a malfunction.
After use
Cautions
When detaching your CLI
É
handheld, pull it straight out from the
docking connector of the keyboard. If you detach your CLI
É
handheld in
the wrong direction, the docking connector or the PDA foot may break
and cause a malfunction.
Avoid touching the metal part of the docking connector when pushing the
connector downward, as it may cause a malfunction.

Turn off your CLIÉ handheld.
Unplug the AC power adapter if you are using it for the compact
keyboard.

Detach your CLIÉ handheld from the docking
connector.
When detaching your CLI
É
handheld from the keyboard, be
sure to pull it straight out from the keyboard. Otherwise it may
break the PDA foot and cause a malfunction.

Push the docking connector downward (

), then
retract the PDA foot into the keyboard (

).

Close the keyboard.
Fold the keyboard at the center, then bring the edges together
until they click.
Caution
When closing the keyboard, do not push the keys inside, as it may cause a
malfunction.
Customizing the keyboard
Assigning CLIÉ handheld application
shortcuts to number keys
You can assign application shortcuts to any of the number keys (0-9)
in the upper part of the compact keyboard.

Turn on your CLIÉ handheld.

Press the HOME/MENU button on your CLIÉ
handheld.
Or depending on your CLI

handheld, tap the Home icon in the
screen.
The Home screen appears.

Tap the [KB Utility] icon.
The Key settings screen appears.

Tap

next to any Cmd+number key ([Cmd+0]
through [Cmd+9]).
The application items are displayed in the pop-up menu.

Testing the application shortcut function with this compact
keyboard
Press and hold the
Cmd
key and the number key (0-9) assigned to the
desired application simultaneously.
If the application does not start properly, follow all the steps for assigning the
application shortcut key again.
Changing the key layout
You can change the key layout of the keyboard.

Viewing the Keyboard Help
You can view the explanation for main terms and functions, and
keyboard shortcuts.

Tap the [KB Utility] icon.

The Keyboard Help screen appears.
Tip
You can also view the Keyboard Help screen by pressing the K key while
pressing the Ctrl key on the keyboard.
For details on how to operate or type with this compact

supplied CD-ROM, then refer to the
Keyboard Help List
and
the supplied

Tap [OK] to close the Keyboard Help screen.

Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when you type on the keyboard.
-
Check that your CLI
É
handheld is charged.
-
Make sure that your CLI
É
handheld is connected to the keyboard
correctly.

Confirm that Keyboard Utility for this keyboard is installed
properly.
A HotSync operation cannot be performed when you connect
this keyboard to your CLIÉ handheld.
-
You cannot use this keyboard as a cradle for your CLI
É
handheld.
To perform a HotSync operation, remove the keyboard, and attach
a cradle to your CLI
É
handheld.
The power of your CLI
É
handheld turns on or the HotSync
screen appears when you connect this keyboard to your CLI
É
handheld.
-
If your CLI
É
handheld is not properly connected to the keyboard,
the power of your CLI
É
handheld may turn on or the HotSync
screen may appear. To reconnect your CLI
É
handheld to the
keyboard; tap [Cancel] to end the HotSync operation, then turn off
your CLI
É
handheld and detach it from the docking connector.
Keyboard operation suddenly stops.

The keyboard may not function if you perform a soft reset when
the keyboard is connected to your CLI
É
handheld. Disconnect the
keyboard before performing a soft reset on your CLI
É
handheld.
Do not connect the keyboard to your CLI
É
handheld while it is
restarting.
Notes on use
Do not subject the keyboard to:
Extreme heat or cold
Dust, dirt, or sand
High humidity
Vibration
Strong magnetic fields
Mechanical shock
Direct sunlight (for extended periods of time)
Do not drop the keyboard.
Be sure that nothing metallic comes into contact with the
docking connector of the keyboard. If this happens, a short
circuit may occur and the keyboard may be damaged.
Do not operate the keyboard if it has been dropped or damaged.
Do not attach an AC power adapter with a damaged cord to the
keyboard.
Always keep the metal contacts clean.
Do not disassemble or modify the keyboard.
While the keyboard is in use, it gets warm. This is normal.
Do not carry the keyboard with your CLI
É
handheld attached.
Before carrying, detach your CLI
É
handheld first.
Use the keyboard on a level surface.
If the keyboard does not work, detach your CLI
É
handheld from
the keyboard, then attach the interface connector of your CLI
É
handheld to the docking connector of the keyboard again.
Be careful not to spill liquids, such as water, juice, or other soft
drinks onto the keyboard.
Cleaning
Clean the keyboard with a soft, dry cloth or a soft cloth lightly
moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of
solvent, such as alcohol or benzine, which may damage the finish.

Installing the software
Before using the keyboard, you have to install Keyboard Utility on
your CLI
É
handheld. To install Keyboard Utility, use the CD-ROM
supplied with this compact keyboard.
Before installation
Check the following;
You need
a
Windows compatible
computer
, on which the Palm
Desktop application suitable for your CLI
É
handheld is already
installed. Then, connect the computer to your CLI
É
handheld to
make sure that the HotSync operation is correctly performed on
both your computer and CLI
É
handheld. For details, refer to the
operating instructions supplied with your CLI
É
handheld.
If any other keyboard application is already installed, disable or
turn off the application.
Make sure that your CLI
É
handheld has a minimum of 300 KB
free memory. For details on checking memory amount, refer to
the operating instructions of your CLI
É
handheld.

Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-ROM
drive of your computer.
The installer starts and the initial screen for installation appears.

Click the same language as the one used on
your CLIÉ handheld.
Select the same language as the one used on your CLI
É
handheld, otherwise characters may become garbled.

Click [Install] next to Keyboard Utility.
The installer submenu appears.

Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed
with the keyboard utility installation.
If more than one user name is registered, select your user name
from the user list.

Click [Done].

Click [Exit].

Perform a HotSync operation with your CLIÉ
handheld.
This HotSync operation is to transfer Keyboard Utility from your
computer to your CLI
É
handheld.
Make sure that the keyboard icon appears on the Home screen of
your CLI
É
handheld.
Note
If the keyboard icon does not appear on the Home screen of your CLI
É
handheld, repeat all the steps (1 to 7) to complete the software installation.
Getting started
Using the keyboard with your
CLIÉ handheld

Push the latch down to open the keyboard.
Open the keyboard and set it on a firm, level surface.

Slide the PDA foot out of the keyboard (

)
and pull up the PDA foot (

), then pull the
docking connector upward (

).
Caution
Avoid touching the metal part of the docking connector when pulling the
connector upward, as it may cause a malfunction.
