Using the Self-propel Drive To operate the self-propel drive, simply walk with your hands on the upper handle and your elbows at your sides, and the mower will automatically keep pace with you (Figure 13). 1. Note: When you pull the recoil start handle, pull it lightly until you feel resistance, then pull it sharply (Figure 12). Allow the rope to return to the handle slowl> Figure 13 Note: If the mower does not freely roll backward after self-propelling, stop walking, hold your hands in place, and allow the mower to roll a couple of inches (centimeters) forward to disengage the wheel drive. You can also try reaching just under the personal pace handle to the metal handle and push the mower forward a couple of inches (centimeters).
