Setting the A/V Output (continued) / Recording DRC DRC (Dynamic Range Control) enables you to control the dynamic range so as to achieve a suitable sound for your equipment. Select "DRC" and the level from below. TV: Dynamic range is reduced. STD: Full dynamic range is reduced. MAX: Full dynamic range is maintained. NOTES: • This function works only during playback of Dolby Digi- tal recorded discs. • When you listen to the sound from TV's speaker, it is recommended to select "TV". • The level of Dynamic Range Reduction may differ depending on the DVD. This section describes recording settings. Preparation: • Turn ON the TV and set it to the video input mode. • Select "Recording". For the procedure, see steps 1 to 2 in "Using the SETUP MENU" on page 20. General A/V Output Recording Auto Chapter 10 min. Index Picture 0 sec. Black Level Standard Press RETURN to exit Timer REC Recording Other Various settings Digital Output Mode Select from the following methods of outputting the audio of discs that were recorded with Dolby Digital. Bitstream: Outputs in Dolby Digital sound. PCM: Converts the sound to PCM and outputs it. NOTE: Select PCM if you are connected to an audio amplifier and the amplifier is not Dolby Digital compatible. Virtual Surround (QSound) Sound that is not recorded in the surround mode will be changed to artificial surround sound and output. Select "Virtual Surround" and "On" to activate the virtual surround function. Select "Off" to cancel the virtual surround function. Manufactured under license from QSound Labs, Inc. NOTES: • This function does not work with a video tape. • The "QSound" works only when the DVD disc recorded with Dolby Digital is played back. • When this function works, the volume might change. • When the voice is distorted, turn off QSound. External Audio Input The audio mode for the audio input jack can be selected, choosing either stereo or monaural. Select "External Audio Input" and audio input from below. Stereo: The sound is treated as stereo sound. L CH: The sound is treated as the monaural sound of the left channel. R CH: The sound is treated as the monaural sound of the right channel. Auto Chapter You can automatically make chapter marks on the DVD to be recorded. Select "Auto Chapter" and the interval between chapter marks from below. Off: The automatic chapter is not used. 5 min.: The interval is set to 5 minutes. 10 min.: The interval is set to 10 minutes. 15 min.: The interval is set to 15 minutes. Index Picture You can set the time that the thumbnail picture is registered in the title menu of DVD-RAM or DVD-RW (VR mode). Select "Index Picture" and registered recording point from below. 0 sec.: The picture of a recording at 0 second start point is registered. 1 min.: The picture of a recording at 1 minute start point will be registered. 3 min.: The picture of a recording at 3 minutes start point will be registered. NOTES: • You cannot select the thumbnail picture for DVD-RW (Video mode), DVD-R, DVD+RW or DVD+R. • You can also change the thumbnail picture after re- cording. See "Selecting thumbnail picture" on page 60. Black Level You can set the black level when you record. Standard: Records at the level of the input source. Enhanced: Lowers the level 7.5IRE and records.
