Troubleshooting Troubleshooting If your BC898T is not performing properly, try the following steps. Problem The scanner doesn't work. Improper reception. Scan won't stop. Scan won't start. Possible Cause The scanner might not be receiving any power. The scanner's antenna might need to be adjusted. The squelch might need to be adjusted. The antenna might need to be adjusted. One or more channels might be locked out. The channel's frequency might not be stored in memory. The channel might not be active. You must press SCAN to scan. The squelch might need to be adjusted. One or more channels might be locked out. Suggestion Make sure the AC adapter is connected to an AC outlet and the scanner. If there is a wall switch that controls power to the AC outlet where you connected the AC adapter, make sure it is on. Check the antenna connection or move or reposition the antenna. Move the scanner. You might be in a remote area that could require an optional multi-band antenna. Check with your dealer or local electronics store. Adjust the squelch threshold. See "Setting the Squelch" on Page 20. Check the antenna connection. Make sure the channels you want to scan are not locked out. Make sure the channel's frequency is stored in the scanner's memory. Wait for a transmission on the channel. Press SCAN. Adjust the squelch threshold. See "Setting the Squelch" on Page 20. Make sure the channels you want to scan are not locked out. 47

1. Select a location in your vehicle to mount the scanner. Avoid a location that could interfere with your driving. In a passenger car, the ideal location is underneath the dashboard on the passenger side.	21

Otherwise, if you selected E2-HI or E2-UHF in Step 3, follow these steps to enter the band plan (base frequency, spacing frequency, and offset channel) for the system you want to scan.	45
1. If you are still in the programming mode, press DATA. Otherwise, select the trunking programming mode and bank you want to change. Then, repeatedly press HOLD r or LIMIT s until E1 appears, then press E.	46
2. Repeatedly press HOLD r or LIMIT s until FLEET appears, then press E.	46
3. Repeatedly press HOLD r or LIMIT s to select the fleet map you want. For example, E1P2.	46

4. Enter an ID. To enter the dash used in Type I ID’s, use the . key.	47
