14 The Pedals The CVP-83S and CVP-85A have two pedals while the CVP-87A has three. These offer a range of advanced expressive capabilities. When the damper pedal is pressed notes played have a long sustain. Releasing the pedal immediately stops (damps) any sustained notes. NOTES • While the CVP-85A and CVP-83S damper pedals are either on or off, the CVP87A damper pedal offers continuous damping control. On/off operation can also be selected via the "Damper Pedal Mode" utility function (page 43). s Center Pedal (Sostenuto Pedal, CVP-87A only) If you play a note or chord on the keyboard and press the sostenuto pedal while the note(s) are held, those notes will be sustained as long as the pedal is held (as if the damper pedal had been pressed) but all subsequently played notes will not be sustained. This makes it possible to sustain a chord, for example, while other notes are played "staccato." s Left Pedal (Multi-function) CVP-83S/85A SOFT SOSTENUTO START/STOP SOLO STYLEPLAY CVP-87A SOFT START/STOP SOLO STYLEPLAY The left pedal has a number of functions which can be selected using the [LEFT PEDAL FUNCTION] button and indicators. Each time the [LEFT PEDAL FUNCTION] button is pressed the next function on the LEFT PEDAL function "list" is selected and the corresponding indicator will light. LEFT PEDAL FUNCTION LEFT PEDAL FUNCTION q Soft... Pressing the soft pedal subtly reduces the volume and slightly changes the timbre of notes played. The SOFT function is automatically selected whenever the POWER switch is turned on. q Sostenuto (CVP-85A and CVP-83S) ...If you play a note or chord on the keyboard and press the sostenuto pedal while the note(s) are held, those notes will be sustained as long as the pedal is held (as if the damper pedal had been pressed) but all subsequently played notes will not be sustained. This makes it possible to sustain a chord, for example, while other notes are played "staccato." The left-pedal SOSTENUTO function cannot be selected while the SOLO STYLEPLAY feature is operating. q Start/Stop ...The left pedal performs the same function as the panel [START/STOP] buttons. For details on the START/STOP function, refer to the "Accompaniment" section on page 18, 19. q Solo Styleplay ...For details on the SOLO STYLEPLAY function see "SOLO STYLEPLAY" on page 25 (the SOLO STYLEPLAY pedal function can only be selected when the SOLO STYLEPLAY feature is in use). NOTES • The damper, soft, and sostenuto pedal functions do not affect the DRUMS voice.

The Pedals
Right Pedal (Damper Pedal)
The damper pedal functions in the same way as a damper pedal on an acoustic piano. When the damper pedal is
pressed notes played have a long sustain. Releasing the pedal immediately stops (damps) any sustained notes.
NOTES
While the CVP-85A and CVP-83S damper pedals are either on or off, the CVP-
