4. The selector lever should be operated in the same manner as an ordinary gasoline- fueled vehicle with automatic transmission. When you release the accelerator pedal during driving in the "EB" mode, "braking power" equal to engine braking is applied in correspondence with the running mode position, and then the vehicle speed decreases. (a) Normal driving 1. Shift the selector lever to "D" or "R" with the brake pedal depressed. When you need more powerful braking effect, shift the selector lever to "B" position. CAUTION Never put your foot on the accelerator pedal while shifting. 2. Release the parking brake. 3. Release your foot from the brake pedal and depress the accelerator pedal to start the vehicle. Operate the accelerator pedal carefully because the speed at starting is controlled only by the accelerator pedal. CAUTION Be careful when downshifting on a slippery surface. Abrupt shifting could cause the vehicle to spin or skid. (b) Driving in "EB" mode When the "EB" switch is turned to "ON" position, releasing the accelerator pedal in "D" position provides "braking power" equal to engine braking. 16
