If you cannot shift running mode selector lever CAUTION CAUTION If the hybrid system is not running, the power assist for the brakes and steering will not work so steering and braking will be much harder than usual. D Use extreme caution when towing vehicles. Avoid sudden starts or erratic driving maneuvers which would place excessive stress on the emergency towing eyelet and towing cable or chain. The eyelet and towing cable or chain may break and cause serious injury or damage. 50p026b D In case of installing the front eyelet on the vehicle, be sure to tighten in the front eyelet securely. If the tightening is loose, it may come off when towing and result in death or serious injury to the passenger in the front vehicle or damage to that vehicle. If you cannot shift the selector lever out of "P" position to other positions even though the brake pedal is depressed, use the shift lock override button as follows: 1. Turn the ignition key to position. Make sure the brake is set. "LOCK" parking NOTICE Use only a cable or chain specifically intended for use in towing vehicles. Securely fasten the cable or chain to the towing eyelet provided. Before towing, release the parking brake and put the selector lever in "N". The key must be in "ACC" (hybrid system off) or "ON" (hybrid system on). 2. Pry up the cover with a flat-bladed screwdriver or equivalent. 182
