Theft deterrent system NOTICE Be sure to return the support rod to its clip before closing the hood. Closing the hood with the support rod inserted into the slot could cause the hood to bend. 21p028a 21p007b To deter vehicle theft, the system is designed to sound an alarm if any of the doors or hood is forcibly unlocked or the battery terminal is reconnected when the vehicle is locked. The alarm blows the horn intermittently and flashes the headlights and tail lights and other exterior lights. This function can be deactivated or activated. For details, contact your Toyota dealer. SETTING THE SYSTEM When the key is inserted into the key slot: 1. Remove the key. In case of the smart entry and start system: 1. Stop the hybrid system and open the driver's door The indicator light will start flashing. (See "Hybrid vehicle immobilizer system" on page 20 for details.) 2. Have all passengers get out of the vehicle. 3. Close and lock all the doors and hood. 44
