'06 TUNDRA_U (L/O 0508) Four −wheel drive system- (a) Front drive control Good driving practice D If it is difficult to shift into reverse, put the transmission in neutral, release the clutch pedal momentarily, and then try again. Use the "2WD/4HI" and "4LO" switches to select the following transfer modes. 1. "2WD" (high speed position, two− wheel drive): "2WD/4HI" and "4LO" switches left out Use this for normal driving on dry, hard−surfaced roads. This position gives greater economy, the quietest ride and least wear. 2. "4HI" (high speed position, four− wheel drive): "2WD/4HI" switch pushed in The "4HI" indicator light comes on when the "4HI" mode is selected. Use this for normal driving on wet, icy or snow−covered roads. This position provides greater traction than two− wheel drive. In this mode, the vehicle stability control system is off. (See "Vehicle stability control system" in this Section.) D When towing a trailer, in order to maintain engine braking efficiency, do not use sixth gear. CAUTION Be careful when downshifting on a slippery surface. Abrupt shifting could cause the vehicle to skid or spin. NOTICE z Do not use any gears other than first gear when starting off and moving forward. Doing so may damage the clutch. z Make sure the vehicle is completely stopped before shifting into reverse. 196 2006 TUNDRA from Oct. '06 Prod. (OM34458U)
