replaces the section "UserLevel Access Control" at the end of chapter 4. In the Quick Installation Guide, this section replaces items 3-6 listed under "Step 4. Set up Windows (SMB)". 2. On the next page, set User-level access control and [Next >]. 3. On the next page, set Create a Computer Account in the Domain. The server's event log (select the Administration tab and then the Event Log button) will record the server successfully joining the domain you specified. 3. From the Select a file server list, select the entry for your new HP server. 6. On the main wizard page, select TCP/IP and click [Start >]. On the subsequent TCP/IP Wizard-IP Addresses page, select Manually. Click [Next >]. 7. Those definitions will be used to control access to shares on the HP CD/DVD-ROM server. Setting the volume permissions is described on page 25. 15. Click [Next >]. You will see the Protocols page, shown below. Select the protocol(s) currently being used on your network. Click [Next >]. 16. When you see the Finish page, click [Finish]. Optional: Server Configuration Using Detailed View On the Quick Setup configuration page (see step 4 on page 17), click the Detailed View icon. You will see a page with tabs for each protocol (shown below). Verifying Macintosh Settings. On the Detailed View's Protocol page (see "Server Configuration Using Detailed View" on page 21), click the Mac (AFP) tab and verify the settings; they are the same ones available in the wizard. Setting Permissions Click the Administration tab. Click [Discs & Drives]. Select the Discs and file system view. For each of the discs and for the root and for the Volumes folder, you will see an icon in the Access Rights column (illustrated above on page 25). Click that icon. Authentication Server Access Control To set this security mode, use the Access Rights properties page (see "Setting Permissions" on page 25). Click the Mac Sharing tab. Share Password Access Control A password can be assigned to any server folder or any disc inserted in a connected drive. The user will automatically be prompted for the password when trying to access the shared folder. Access will then be granted to the folder and all its subfolders. Note
for Upgrades

This release 5.30 can be used to upgrade only the releases
starting with 5.06. It cannot be used with releases starting
with version 4.00, such as those used with the HP SureStore
CD-ROM Server/Tower (HP J3276A, J3277A, J3278A). Your
existing firmware version is identified on the
Administration
web page for
This Server
, when the server is highlighted (and
in the
config.ini
file in the
ServerProperties
folder in the
System
folder).
User-Level Access Control for Windows
Now Managed with Native NT Tools
You can now manage the server’s Windows (SMB) user-level
security in the same way you manage it for your other NT servers.
The HP CD/DVD-ROM Server now emulates a Windows NT 4.0
server. You use more of the native tools for NT servers, such as
User Manager for Domains. You can add, remove, and change
rights on the Properties page for a folder.
User-level security as described here is recommended for networks
based on Windows NT Server. Note that share-level security is the
alternative recommended for Windows workgroup-based networks
without a domain controller (also known as the PDC, DC, or
authentication server).
CAUTION!
❏
If you had configured user-level access rights on the server and
you now upgrade to firmware version 5.20 or later, then all
previous access rights configured for SMB will be removed.
HP recommends that before you upgrade the firmware, you
check and record any special user access settings you have:
