550/600 MHz Requires BIOS Upgrade
Situation
The HP NetServer LH 3 / 3r may
freeze
during upgrade of the processor speed above 500 MHz. (This upgrade
involves replacement of the lower speed processor with one that runs at more than 500 MHz. In addition, system
switch resets may be required.) Using the BIOS level on the
HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM
version 15.10 or
earlier
for upgrade to 550/600 MHz may cause the server to freeze prior to the boot process beginning.
Solution
Successful upgrade of the LH 3 / 3r to processor speeds above 500 MHz can only be achieved by using the following
sequence of steps:

First restart the NetServer with version 15.15 or later of the
HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM
.
NOTE
If the HP NetServer LH 3 / 3r is operating before the upgrade, bring down the operating system.
Then insert the
HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM
Version 15.15 or later, (included with the
processor upgrade kit) and restart the NetServer.
If the NetServer is not in operation, power it up (or restart it) with the
HP NetServer Navigator
CD-ROM
Version 15.15 or later in the CD-ROM drive.

Flash update the BIOS before beginning the replacement of the processor modules.

Restart the NetServer.

Then power down the NetServer and replace the processor module(s) as shown in the instructions that
accompany the kit.
