Adding or Replacing a Memory Module To add or replace a memory module: 1. Shut down the notebook. (If you are not sure whether the notebook is off or in hibernation, turn the notebook on by pressing the power/standby button. Then shut down the notebook through the operating system.) 2. 8. To replace a memory module: a. Pull away the retention clips on each side of the memory module 1. (The memory module tilts upward.) b. Grasp the edges of the memory module 2 and gently pull the module out of the memory slot. insert a memory module: a. Align the keyed (notched) edge 1 of the memory module with the tabbed area in the memory slot. b. 10. Align the tabs 1 on the memory module cover with the notches on the notebook. 11. Close the cover 2. 12. Tighten the memory module cover screws 3. 13. Replace the battery pack(s). 14. Effects of Increasing Memory When random access memory (RAM) increases, the operating system increases the hard drive space reserved for the hibernation file.
