17. Glossary ** 1. Aerial ** A device that collects and amplifies electromagnetic waves. Also called "Antenna" ** 2. Coaxial cable ** A specially designed and shields cable that can transport signals with high frequency ** 3. Frequency ** The number of cycles or events per one second, which is expressed in the unit of hertz ** 4. FTA (Free- To-Air) ** An unscrambled broadcast, which you can view without additional payments to a service provider ** 5. HDD (Hard Disk Drive) ** The primary computer storage medium, which is made of one or more aluminum or glass platters, coated with a ferromagnetic material ** 6. MUX ** The transmitter/frequency/channel where the programme provider/operator transmit a package of digital channels/services. Usually there are several MUX frequencies with different or same content. ** 7. Network ** The collection of channels/services that a programme provider/operator offer. These services may be transmitted from one or several MUXes. In the transmitted data stream the operator may transmit a service information table(network information) that informs the Product about all available services in the network. ** 8. OSD (On Screen Display) ** The function that displays the information about the monitor that the user needs or has to know on the screen directly. OSD information includes brightness, contrast, tuning, RGB adjustment and screen size and positions (top, left, width and height) and so on. ** 9. OTA (Over The Air) ** The software is downloaded with the manufacturer reserving the right to decide when and where to release them through aerial. ** 10.PIP (Picture In Picture) ** TV screen which can display another small screen within the main screen. The background screen is called the parent screen and the small screen is called PIP. ** 11.PVR (Personal Video Recorder) ** Video recorder that can record and play back programmes directly using the embedded hard disk drive(s). ** 12.RF (Radio Frequency) ** Frequencies occupied by radio waves of the total frequency range of electromagnetic waves ** GB 80
