Watching One Channel & Recording Another ᕡ Attach an RF splitter (not included) to the Coaxial RF cable coming out of the wall (before it connects to any equipment). ᕢ Connect a Coaxial RF cable to one of the OUT jacks on the splitter; then attach the other end to the Cable/Antenna-RF In jack on the DVR. ᕣ Connect another Coaxial RF cable to the splitter's other OUT jack; then attach the other end directly to the Antenna In jack on your TV. ᕤ Connect a Composite A/V cable from the Audio/Video Output jacks on the DVR to the Audio/Video Input jacks on the TV. ᕥ Connect the phone cord (see page 8). After you complete Guided Setup, you can connect your DVR to a home network and use a broadband Internet connection instead of a phone line to connect to the TiVo service. See Chapter 7. ᕦ Plug in all power cords and turn on your TV. Set your TV to display video from the input jacks you used in step ᕤ. You may have to find the correct TV input setting by pressing the Input or TV/Video button on your TV's remote control until you see the Welcome screen. (For more help, see page 125.) Once you see the Welcome screen, the final steps are to activate the TiVo service and complete Guided Setup (see Chapter 2). If you want to add a VCR, DVD recorder, or other equipment, see page 20. If you have a cable box: • In step ᕢ, connect one of the Coaxial RF cables coming from the splitter to your cable box. Then, connect a Composite A/V cable from the Audio/Video Output jacks on the cable box to the Audio/Video Input jacks on the DVR. • Then continue with step ᕣ. Keep in mind that you can only receive basic channels on the signal that goes directly from the splitter to your TV. Also, you will not have TiVo service functionality on those channels. How do I watch one channel and record another? ® In this setup, your cable or antenna signal is split and sent to two different devices: 1 your TiVo DVR, and your TV. To watch live TV on one channel while the DVR records another, use your TV's remote to change channels. You won't have TiVo service functionality on the signal that goes direct to your TV, so you can't pause or rewind live TV while your DVR is recording another channel. To watch video from your DVR again: First, press the TiVo button so that the DVR displays TiVo Central®. (This will not interrupt any recording in progress.) Then press the Input, or TV/Video button on your TV's remote until you see TiVo Central. 19
