Here's how to operate your transaxle: FIRST (1): Press the clutch pedal and shift into FIRST (1). Then, slowly let up on the clutch pedal as you press the accelerator pedal. You can shift into FIRST when you're going less (1) than 20 mph (32 km/h). If you've come toa complete (I), stop and it's hard to shift into FIRST put the shift (N) the lever in NEUTRAL and let up on clutch. Press the clutch pedal back down. Then into FIRST(1). shift REVERSE (R): To back up, press downthe clutch (R). pedal and shift into REVERSE Let up on the clutch pedal slowly while pressing accelerator pedal. the I I NOTICE: Shift to REVERSE only after your vehicle is (R) stopped. Shifting to REVERSE while your (R) vehicle is moving could damage your transaxle. Also, use REVERSE (R), along with the parking brake, for parking your vehicle. SECOND (2): Press the clutch pedal as you let up on (2). the accelerator pedal and shift into SECOND Then, as slowly let up on the clutch pedal you press the accelerator pedal. THIRD (3), FOURTH (4) and FIFTH(5): Shift into the THIRD (3), FOURTH (4) AND FIFTH (3, same way you dofor SECOND (2). Slowly let up on the clutch pedal as press the accelerator pedal. you To stop, let up on accelerator pedal and press the the brake pedal. Just before the vehicle stops, press the clutch pedal and brake pedal, and the shift to NEUTRAL (N). NEUTRAL (N): Use this position when you start or idle your engine. Shift Speeds If you skip more than one gear when you downshift, you could lose control of your vehicle. And you could injure yourself or others. Don't shift from FIFTH( 5 ) to SECOND (2) or FOURTH (4) to FIRST(1). 2-25
