If the light turns solid or blinks after the engine is started, a malfunction has occurred. Seek service immediately from your dealership. 9 HOOD RELEASE Pull the hood release handle located under the bottom left corner of the instrument panel; release the auxiliary latch located under the front center of the hood. Lift the hood and secure it with the prop rod. 12 6 7 You have accepted a starring role in the Mustang Phenomenon, an automotive love affair that is unlike any other. The Ponycar passion that began decades ago on quarter-mile stretches of asphalt has evolved to become your personal automotive experience today. This Quick Reference Guide will help you mesh quickly with many of your new car's features. It was designed for use with the accompanying CD-ROM. Insert the CD into any audio CD player; find the numbered call-outs on the instrument panel portion of this guide, then select the corresponding number on the CD audio track for a fast, convenient introduction to Mustang. For more detailed information, place the CD into your computer (the CD jacket will tell you if your computer meets the minimum configuration requirements) - or consult your Owner's Guide. 3 8 9 10 FOGLAMP CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) Press to activate the foglamps during headlamp operation. The foglamp indicator light will illuminate. Press the control again to deactivate the foglamps. The foglamps will not operate when the high beams are activated. For extended wiper blade quality, occasional cleaning of the wiper blades with a non-abrasive cleaner available from your dealer is required. 7 GEARSHIFT/OVERDRIVE CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) 4 11 12 ABS WARNING LAMP Illuminates momentarily when the ignition is turned to the ON position. In an emergency, apply continuous force on the brake to prevent wheel lock when braking on slippery surfaces - do not pump your brakes. Any pulsation or noise you may feel or hear is normal. Overdrive is the normal drive position for the best fuel economy. Only deactivate (OFF) overdrive when driving with a heavy load, towing a trailer up or down steep hills, or when additional engine braking is desired. To deactivate, press the transmission control switch on the gearshift lever. 11 8 HAZARD FLASHER CONTROL Press to activate all hazard flashers simultaneously in an emergency to warn traffic of vehicle breakdown, approaching danger, etc. Press the control again to turn the flashers off. The hazard flashers can be operated when the ignition is off. SPEED CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) To operate, the speed control must be ON and the vehicle speed must be at or above 30 mph. To set a speed, press and hold SET ACCEL until you reach the desired speed, then release. To set a higher speed, press SET ACCEL again. Press and release this control to increase the vehicle set speed in small amounts by 1.6 km/h (1 mph). To set a lower speed, press and hold COAST until you reach the desired speed, then release. Press and release this control to decrease the vehicle set speed in small amounts by 1.6 km/h (1 mph). Pressing RESUME will return to a previously set speed. To turn the speed control off, press the OFF button, turn off the vehicle ignition, or depress the brake pedal to disengage. O 6 When the headlamp control is in the parking lamp or lowbeam position, rotate the control clockwise/counterclockwise to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel. Rotate fully counterclockwise to turn on the courtesy lamps. REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER CONTROL Press to clear the rear window of thin ice and frost. A small LED will illuminate when the rear defroster is activated. Press the control again to turn off the defroster. The ignition must be in the ON position to operate the rear window defroster. The defroster turns off automatically after 10 minutes or when the ignition is turned to the OFF position. 10 TRACTION CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) This system allows your rear-wheel drive vehicle to make better use of available traction on slippery surfaces by working closely with the anti-lock braking system. The system defaults to ON, however, should you become stuck, try switching the traction control system off. TURN SIGNAL AND WIPER/WASHER CONTROL Rotate the windshield wiper control to the desired interval, low- or high-speed position. When in the intermittent position, rotate the control upward for fast intervals or downward for slow intervals. Push the control on the end of the stalk to activate the washer. Push and hold for a longer wash cycle. The washer will automatically shut off after ten seconds of continuous use. To operate the mist function of the windshield wipers, push and release the windshield washer control quickly. The wipers will cycle one or two times.
