Supplemental'Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System This part explains the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system or air bag system. Your vehicle has an air bag for the driver. Here are the most important things to know about the air bag system: \ To unlatch the belt, just push the button on the buckle. The belt should go back out of the way. Before you close the door, be sure the belt is out of the way. If you slam the door on it, you can damage both the belt and your vehicle. You can be severely injured killed in a crash or if' you aren't wearing your e t y belt even if you d have an air bag. Wearing your e t y belt during a d crash helps reduce your chancehitting things of inside the vehicle being ejected from it. The or air bag is only a "supplemental restraint." That it is, works with safety belts doesn't replace them. but Air bags are designed to work onlyin moderate to severe crashes where the frontyour vehicle hits of something. They aren't designed to inflate all in at rollover, rear, side or low-speed frontal crashes. Everyone in your vehicle, including the driver, should weara safety belt properly whether or not there'san air bag for that person. -- -- ~. ~ 1-29
