168 UNDERSTANDING YOUR INSTRUMENT PANEL level is displayed the system will maintain that level automatically using the heating system. Should the desired comfort level require air conditioning, the system will automatically make the adjustment. You may notice the blower speed getting lower as the difference between the driver and passenger temperature settings gets larger. This is an extreme condition and the airflow may not perform as anticipated. The temperature can be displayed in U.S. or Metric by selecting the US/M customer programmable feature. Refer to the "Overhead Console-Customer Programmable Features" in Section 3 of this manual. The left knob controls the blower fan. Within the AUTO setting on this control, you can select a HI volume of air from the blower or a LO volume. Once the system is set up for your comfort level, it is not necessary to change the setting. You will experience the greatest efficiency by simply allowing the system to function automatically. Manual Operation However, this system does offer a full complement of manual override features. There is a manual blower range used when the AUTO setting is not desired. The left control can be set to any fixed blower speed by rotating the knob from LO to HI on the upper portion of the dial. The operator can override the AUTO mode setting and select the direction of the air by rotating the right mode knob to one of the following positions. • Defrost Air is directed to the windshield through the outlets at the base of the windshield. • Defrost/Floor Air flows through the front and rear floor outlets and the outlets at the base of the windshield.
