MX-5 Miata_8T72-EA-04G_Edition1 Page40 Wednesday, June 9 2004 3:4 PM Black plate (40,1) Essential Safety Equipment SRS Air Bags l Rear-ending or running under a truck's tail gate may not provide the stopping force necessary for air bag deployment. qConstant Monitoring The following components of the air bag systems are monitored by a diagnostic system: l l l l l l SAS unit Crash sensor Air bag modules Seat belt pretensioners Related wiring Passenger air bag deactivation switch Non-activation of air bags Air bags will not normally inflate in the following cases: l Collision from the rear. A diagnostic module continuously monitors the systems' readiness. This begins when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and continues while the vehicle is being driven. l Impact to the side. qAir Bag/Seat Belt Pretensioner System Warning Light l Vehicle roll-over. If the air bag/seat belt pretensioner system is normal, the warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or after the engine is cranked.
